Privacy policy
How we collect, use, share and protect personal information, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
1. About this policy
This policy explains how Geared Up Network Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 66 703 585 513, ACN 703 585 513) (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles personal information. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in it.
It applies to information collected through gearedupnetworkaustraliatec.online, by email, and in connection with our introductions, community events and shared resources.
2. What we collect
We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for what we do (APP 3). Depending on how you deal with us, this may include:
- your name and email address;
- your business name, trade or service, and the area you work in;
- the kinds of businesses you would like to be introduced to;
- anything else you choose to include in an email or enquiry; and
- details you give us when registering interest in, or attending, a community event.
We do not ask for sensitive information (such as health information or information about racial or ethnic origin), and we ask that you do not send it to us. You may deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym where that is practicable (APP 2), although we cannot make an introduction without knowing who you are.
3. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you — when you email us, use the enquiry form on our contact page (which opens your own email app and sends a message to us), or speak with us at an event. If another business suggests we introduce you, we will tell you where we got your details from (APP 5).
4. How we use it
We use personal information to:
- respond to your enquiries;
- understand your business so we can suggest suitable introductions;
- make introductions you have agreed to;
- tell you about community events and shared resources, where you have asked us to; and
- run our business and meet our legal obligations.
We will not use your information for an unrelated purpose without your consent, unless the Privacy Act permits it (APP 6).
5. Introductions and disclosure
Introductions are the core of what we do, so this point matters: we only pass your name, business details or contact details to another business after you have agreed to that particular introduction. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
We may also disclose personal information to service providers who help us operate (for example, email and website hosting providers), or where we are required or authorised by law to do so.
6. Cookies and website data
This website does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not run third-party tracking scripts. Our hosting provider may automatically record standard technical information when pages are requested — such as IP address, browser type and the time of the request — to deliver the site and protect it from misuse. We do not use this information to identify individual visitors.
7. Overseas disclosure
Some of the providers we use for email and website hosting may store or process data on servers located outside Australia. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure the information is handled in a way that is consistent with the APPs (APP 8).
8. Storage, security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure (APP 11). We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy or as required by law, and then securely delete or de-identify it.
9. Access and correction
You may ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading (APPs 12 and 13). Email us at [email protected]. We may need to confirm your identity first. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why in writing, unless it would be unreasonable to do so.
10. Direct marketing
We will only send you news about events or resources if you have asked us to or would reasonably expect it. Every message will tell you how to opt out, and you can ask us to stop at any time by emailing us (APP 7). We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
11. Complaints
If you believe we have breached the Privacy Act or the APPs, please contact us first at [email protected] with details of your concern. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). Information on how to do so is available at www.oaic.gov.au.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be published on this page, with the date it was last updated.
